The story follows initially Shakespeare quite closely, even if the action takes place in American high school, in our times. By the orders of her father Bianca can start dating only once her older sister Kat gets also a date. The only problem is that Kat, although a very attractive girl and definitely not uninterested in men, is such a shrew that no boy is ready to go anywhere near her. Then one day Cameron (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a new student, fells in love with Bianca. Following the advice of his friend Michael he hires local "bad boy" Patrick to seduce Kat - and therefore open him the way to ask Bianca out. From that moment the story diverges quite a lot from Shakespeare's original, as it can be expected - and I will not say anything more about it.

The film follows the pair's budding love-hate relationship and eventual romance. Cameron, a new student at Padua High School, falls in love with the vapid Bianca who is the younger sister to Kat. Cameron bribes Patrick, another unpopular student, to take Kat to a party which she attends in spite of her unwillingness.

Although Patrick is supposed to want to be there with he is cold and cruel to her and she becomes angry. Meanwhile, Bianca learns that Joey, the boy she's in love with who funded the bribe to Patrick, is really an egotistic jerk and turns to Cameron for solace. At school, Patrick makes up for his behavior towards Kat at the party and the pair have a real date that ends with his asking Kat to the prom. The invitation causes a fight between them and their relationship becomes chilled once again. The always at odds sisters find common ground when Kat reveals the source of her. Bianca convinces her to go to prom with Patrick while she goes with Cameron.

When the bribery plot to win Kat over is brought up in front of her by Joey, she leaves, disgusted and upset with Patrick. Joey gets into a fight with Cameron which ends with Bianca's intervention. She overcomes her shallow nature and stands up for herself, hitting Joey repeatedly for all the wrong he's done to herself, her sister, and her friends. Things improve for Kat when her father allows her to go to the college of her choosing and she and Patrick make up for good. 10 Things I Hate About You is afunny and sweet high school movie that I enjoyed. The storyline is just omay, I enjoyed the characters a lot but the main plot seems done before and cliche, but I still had fun.

The cast was really good, Heath Ledger is always a joy to watch, and Joseph Gordon Levitt is such a sweet guy thats its hard not to love him. The comedy was good, I laughed many times espically at Larry Miller as thedad, but it was not nearly as funny as it couldve been. This film had a weak plot and sometimes cliche jokes, and for the love of god do all these high school films have to end at a prom, but this movie a joy to watch with funny characters and really good acting, I enjoyed this film a lot. 10 Things I Hate About You is the rare movie that successfully modernizes Shakespeare, and despite feeling a little predictable it's still an above-average romantic comedy.

The story is based off of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, but with completely modernized dialogue. The lack of Shakespearean dialogue is a welcome touch, as it makes the movie far more comprehensible and charming than other modernized Shakespeare adaptations (coughROMEO+JULIETcough). Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles are both fantastic in the roles that elevated them to stardom, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt is good as well despite being overshadowed a little by Ledger and Stiles.

It can be a little predictable at times, but 10 Things I Hate About You has enough poignant moments, humor, and great acting to make it a memorable and very enjoyable romantic comedy. Another John Hughes classic, Pretty In Pink stars Molly Ringwald as Andie, a girl who is most certainly not popular, yet one of the most popular guys at school likes her. There's a great love triangle in this movie between Andie, her best friend Duckie, and Blane. It's one of John Hughes' best films, and he's an expert at encapsulating teen struggles in Pretty In Pink.

Like most films set in an American high school, 10 Things I Hate About You is a bright and sunny affair that depicts your school days as being the best of your life.

We've seen countless films featuring teenagers in love or in lust and we all know what to expect. Thankfully, this film is brave enough to actually deliver something far deeper than the endless rip-offs of Fast Times At Ridgemont High. Cleverly updating and modernising Shakespeare's play not only makes the film more accessible (I, for one, haven't seen much of Shakespeare's work and definitely not The Taming Of The Shrew) but also still relevant.

We all remember our feelings during our tumultuous teenage years so in a weird way, we relate to the film's story despite it being written - in essence - some 500 years ago. Mean Girls is an absolute classic and is arguably one of the funniest teen movies ever. It tells the story of a home-schooled girl, Cady Heron, who spent most of her childhood in Africa. She has to navigate high school in America with absolutely no knowledge of what it's like and meets The Plastics.

Mean Girls is a must-watch if you're a fan of 10 Things I Hate About You for the way it observes society, something that 10 Things I Hate About You's Kat would be very proud of. Hot young stars, a hip, driving soundtrack, plus a provocative tale of jealousy and betrayal combine to create this controversial modern-day version of Shakespeare's classic, Othello. Even though he's the only black student at the elite Palmetto Grove Academy, he has the adoration of all, including the team's coach (Martin Sheen, TV's West Wing) and the Dean's beautiful daughter, Desi (Julia Styles, TV's Dexter). Odin's troubled friend Hugo , the coach's son, is deeply resentful of his father's preference of Odin on and off the court. When Hugo plots a diabolical scheme to sow the seed of mistrust between O and Desi, it sets in motion a disturbing chain of events which erupts into a firestorm of breathtaking intensity. Anyway, I take umbrage with Stiles' casting - while she's still funny in the role, she looks too old to be playing a high school student.

The film's pace seems a bit off and doesn't really kick into gear until Ledger's bad boy enters stage left. There are also some characters who seem to be largely peripheral but could have been more interesting than some of the principal players. Take Union's Chastity for example who seems criminally under-served by the script.

And while I have already admitted my ignorance of the narrative of Shakespeare's tale, I found myself struggling to keep track of what was happening. This '90s teen hit made a star of then-unknown Australian actor Ledger, introducing him to an American audience that embraced their new golden boy with both arms. 10 Things also launched the film career of Gordon-Levitt, who until then was better known for his role on hammy TV sitcom Third Rock From the Sun. And Joseph Gordon-Levitt has proved to be a darling of the indie scene as well as box office success - his turn in 500 Days Of Summer and Brick would lead to massive success with Inception, one of the most intelligent and stunning films of the 21st century. It might not be big but it is clever - 10 Things I Hate About You is thankfully much smarter than many of the other school comedies available to watch but sadly not that much more enjoyable. It has its moments and the cast provide plenty of romantic misunderstandings and teen verbiage to remind American viewers of the folly of their youth. But given the strength of that cast, I can't help but feel that the film could have been better - possibly with a director more experienced than poor Junger who would quickly slide into direct-to-DVD infamy.

My biggest issue was that I wanted to be enraptured with the film and by and large, I wasn't. Given the talent of the cast and depth of the story, I was left feeling somewhat short-changed. Her brief appearances in the movie are far funnier than what most of the lead characters get up to. Everyone is so good-looking, smiling all the time and conforming perfectly to well-established character stereotypes. Granted, there isn't much learning being done but who cares when everyone is getting excited about The Prom, the single most important occasion in any teenager's life. As a Brit who personally hated almost every minute of school, I simply cannot identify with this impossible handsome cast.

The film is rightfully remembered for launching the careers of stars who would all goon to become highly respected thespians in their own right. But no star shone brighter than Ledger here - his energetic and youthful appearance gives the film a much needed emphasis. His character seems to be the film's driving force and when he first appears, you can't help but suddenly resume your interest in the pic.
