The eight instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise is all set to hit theatres. As always, it features some exotic and drool-worthy vehicles that will star alongside Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham and the crew. Over the years, the franchise has drifted away from just drag races and car chases. However, they do feature some insane, over the top stunts and chase sequences and beautiful machines to satisfy any car lovers appetite.
For the movie, a set specialised machines were built for each character. So, apart from the usual set of muscle cars, supercars and other fancy machines, the movie also features some unique cars customised specifically for the film. While Dom will be seen with a host of cars in Fast 8, the one that grabs special attention is the 'Dodge Ice Charger', built for a special sequence.
The 1968 Dodge Charger has been custom built and is more like a cross between the cars from Mad Max and Ken Block's outrageous Hoonicorn. The steel metal paneled muscle car with the flared body kit looks menacing and gets all-wheel drive and spiked tyres to take on the ice terrain sideways. Apart from the special Ice Charger, Dom Toretto will also be seen with a modern Dodge Charger as well as a ratty old 1951 Chevy that he races during a street race in Cuba in the movie.
As an 'Easter Egg' the movie also features the new Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. In the 8th edition of the movie, Dominic Toretto, played by Vin Diesel is again driving a Dodge Charger. Actually, it was custom built for the movie and features a Chevrolet V8 motor under the hood, putting out 554 bhp of power and features all-wheel drive with spiked tyres.
The custom built car comes with wide wheels and ducktail body kit. The production team used four identical Subaru BR-Zs in the movie out of which only one was damaged. The cars in theFast and Furious films have evolved enormously - alongside the production budgets, ensemble casts, and box office figures. Where the first films featured mostly tuned and modded JDM racers, the newer movies feature the likes of the Lykan HyperSport, the first supercar designed and built in the Middle East.
With a price tag of $3.4 million to own one of the four models ever built, the Lykan has to offer impressive performance and lightweight construction. Motivation comes from a twin-turbo boxer 6 developed by German Porsche tuning company Ruf, the car is definitely impressive - though at just over 3,000 pounds, the idea that Vin Diesel could power clean the front end is a bit of a fantasy. While the movie cars looked shiny and badass in the trailer, they tell a different story from up close. Besides, given that more than half the vehicles will be wrecked by the time filming is over, building to SEMA show standards just wouldn't make sense.
The vehicle of choice for The Rock's character will be this custom built Ram Truck called Ice Ram. Much like past movies, don't expect the to see Hobbs getting behind the wheel of fast cars. Thrillers in the tinsel world have never been complete without focusing on exciting car chases by the hero and the baddie, but perhaps none have been able to grab viewer attention as much as the Fast and Furious series.
The latest in the sequence is Fast and Furious 8 or Fate of the Furious. A movie in which cars are as important as characters, Fate of the Furious also features a variety of cars like its predecessors. Here is a list of these custom built cars which keep the audience mesmerised. We've previously seen some of these cars in a Fast Fridays video from Iceland earlier this month, but we didn't know who any of these cars belonged to. Hopefully we'll get to see more footage with these unique vehicles in action very soon.
Last week, Fast and Furious 8 took fans behind-the-scenes with a new Fast Fridays video that showcased several of the powerful and exotic cars used in the movie. Ever since production started on this high-octane sequel, the production has been giving fans sneak peeks at the sets and the cast as part of their #FastFridays tradition. Instead of a new video, though, today we get five new photos that feature some of the cars driven by main characters during the scenes set in Iceland. Moritz also said that the film would shift the focus of the franchise from a series of heist films to a spy caper, following a similar change in focus from street racing in Fast Five .
In December 2016, the film was retitled The Fate of the Furious. Plans for an eighth installment were first announced in March 2015 when Diesel appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Preparations for the film began immediately after the release of Furious 7, with Diesel, Morgan, and producer Neal H. Moritz re-signing. After setting an initial release date in that same month, casting took place between April and June. In October, Gray was announced to direct the film in the place of James Wan, who had directed the previous installment.
Principal photography began in March 2016 in locations such as Mývatn, Havana, Atlanta, Cleveland, and New York City, continuing the franchise's tradition of filming around the world. With an estimated production budget of up to $270 million, it is one of the most expensive films ever made. Dominic Toretto is known for his affinity for Mopar, and throughout the series we've seen him drive plenty of Dodge Chargers.
McCarthy says that with each iteration of Dom's whips, they need to do something they haven't done—just as the films themselves have escalated over the years. Speedkore, a Wisconsin-based custom car shop, helped build this mid-engine Hellcat supercharged 6.2-liter V-8–powered 1968 Charger, and it cost over $1 million. Two cars were built with Hellcat engines, but the stunt cars are powered by LS3 crate motors with plastic molds of the Hellcat's supercharger on top. Dom's Dodge Ice Charger is the lord of hosts in my opinion in the Fate of the furious cars. The 1968 Dodge charger is custom built with strong steel metal panel and flared body kit that shows a menacing display that definitely made the bad guys quiver.
The 4-wheel drive special Ice charger is equipped with spiked tyres and a powerful horsepower under the hood. In case you are wondering why some of the malls in the metro have muscle cars and super cars parked near their cinemas, it's not a car show but a teaser display for the premiere weekend of the eighth installment of the Fast and Furious movie franchise. Furious 7 showed a Charger that was fitted for off-road driving and heavy weapon assault, and this time the classic shape has been re-formed into an ice racer.
This muscle car is still every bit as recognizable and iconic, but the newly altered wheelbase and fender flares make this into quite the unique snow beast. And as the bullet holes show, the matte black machine is definitely going to see some intense action. Local audiences may have wondered who exactly the Acura Integra from the first film was trying to fool with its big spoiler, custom wheels, and custom paint job. Sure, the Integra is known as the world's best handling front-engined, front wheel drive car, but local fans know the model as strictly a coupe. Spoiler alert, the plot ofThe Fast and the Furious culminates in a trio of Honda Civics trying to rob a semi truck by using aggressive driving, including swooping under the shipping container, to get the drop on its driver. And sure, the Honda Civic is a tiny and low car, especially when lowered like the cars in the film, but in reality no true mechanic beginning a performance-oriented build starts with a front-wheel drive, front-engined Civic.
The Civic is a car built as an affordable commuter, and even tricked out versions like those in this movie are a bit silly. The Supra Turbo featured in the franchise's first film was a 1994 Supra MkIV, built up from a rusty shell into a racer capable of beating a Ferrari off the line on the Pacific Coast Highway. The car features prominently in the film, including in the final drag race in which Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto gets demolished by a semi-truck after just clearing a roaring train by inches. Movie and car enthusiasts alike got a treat when Paul Walker pulled up in a Nissan Skyline GT-R to dominate the first race scene in2 Fast 2 Furious. The racing-bred GT-R stepped the franchise's cars up to another level of performance, with twin turbos and all wheel drive.
If you are a fan of the series, you will know that Dominic Toretto played by Vin Diesel loves American muscle cars. For this films, you witness Dom take to the streets of New York City in a 1971 Plymouth Road Runner GTX. This model broods in black with 16-inch wide rear tyres. It tears up the New York streets being pursued by the rest of Dom's team in their gleaming mixture of sports cars, supercars and muscle cars. Tej Parker finally gets a chance to drive a tank which is custom built for the movie.
The features and specifications of the pocket size smasher are not clear. But the gun installed on top of the Ripsaw surely makes the action-packed scenes more thrilling. In this film there's literally a warehouse full of precious metal for the star-studded cast to choose from, with vehicles ranging from classic American muscle cars, to Italian exotics, to tank-treaded Ripsaw military machines. But the leading role here is without a doubt the Dodge Charger driven by Vin Diesel's character Dominic Toretto. Featuring 10 cars from Fast and Furious 8, one of the main highlights has to be the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, which makes its racing game debut in Forza Motorsport 7. It's currently the fastest production car in the world with a 0-60 mph time of 2.3 seconds thanks to its supercharged 6.2-liter V8.
This is the same modified Demon that lead character Dominic Toretto drove in the film, but we suspect the stock version of the car will be added to the game at some point in a future car pack. Dom's brother, Jakob Toretto , is introduced in Fast 9, and Justin Lin, the director of the franchise, wanted him to drive a Ford Mustang GT equipped with some carbon-fiber body mods. We hate to spoil the realism, but McCarthy told us that during a downhill chase scene , the cars are Mustang bodies with Polaris RZR 1000s underneath. There will also be flashback scenes that show what Jakob would have driven in the early days. Ah yes, one of the best ever and most iconic picture cars is Roman's favoured choice to drive in the closing stages of the movie.
How Roman did drive it on ice is something that still evades most of us. The fast and exotic sport car is painted in a distinct screaming orange coat and is powered by a 6.2 litre, V12 engine that sees the ride 100mph from 0 in just 4 seconds. If a car named the Ice Ram doesn't immediately bring Dwayne Johnson to mind, then maybe a submarine will. As expected from a brutish character that is played by Hobbs, the Ice Ram is some sort of vehicle based on the Ram truck used to gallivant on the ice terrain.
Its wheels have all been swapped with tracks and the thing features a roll cage. The Chevy Corvette stingray is handled by Letty in the furious 8 thriller. The 1966 coupe sports a 2-door, 2-seater design in its beautiful red paint adorned with black rims and large rubber tyres. In the world of simple, un-pimped and un-muscled cars, a Benz always stands out for its uniqueness and class. In the furious 8 movies, Tej is seen handling the wheel of a deliciously-finished matte grey, black striped Mercedes AMG ride.
The car also dazes with is attractive black AMG alloys and although we can go on about how stunning the Benz looks; the performance is no child's play either. The 2014 AMG GT is powered by a 577bhp and 4 litres twin turbo V8 petrol engine with a 2-seater, 2 door fastback design. The Fast and the Furious hit theaters with a vengeance in 2001, immediately sparking public obsession with the film, its stars, and its cars. The core cast of Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster introduced the world to their characters' involvement in the modern era of car modding, street racing, and organized crime. Michelle Rodriguez's character Letty Ortiz will be driving this absolute brute called the Rally Fighter.
The custom built car looks like a beach buggy and the body of a coupe. You can also see the raised suspension, spiked tyres and a bull guard up front as well as the LED lights mounted on top. The popular British car is driven by Deckard Shaw in the movie. The character is seen driving the green Jaguar F-Type Coupe to depict his Briton origin. While being able to drive cars that featured in the film in Forza Motorsport 7 is a nice novelty, we can't help but question why they weren't made available in Forza Horizon 3.
An open world environment with roads and dirt tracks seems far more suitable for some of these vehicles than race tracks for players who want to replicate scenes from the film. We already know that part of Furious 8, the newest installment for The Fast and the Furious franchise, is going to take place in Cuba. With this type of location, it's easy to assume that there's going to be a whole lot of vintage cars racing around the streets of this island.
After all, the newest vehicles out on Cuban roads were built in 1959. With its resolutely blue-collar heroes and diverse cast, the series feels tailor-made for the American dream narrative. Like so many blockbusters, it tells the story of ordinary guys who can do extraordinary things, particularly when they're behind the wheel.
It's perhaps unsurprising that cars are the ideal vehicle for this message when they are such a transcendent status symbol. It doesn't matter if you're working class or a billionaire – having a great car elevates you above your peers. It opened in 33 more countries on Thursday, April 2, for a total of 41 countries, earning $58.4 million, marking Universal Pictures overseas' highest-grossing Thursday ever, and for a two-day total of $82.2 million. Around $22.6 million came from 681 IMAX screens which is Universal's second-biggest behind only Jurassic World. It topped the international charts for a second consecutive term, adding another $158.1 million after which it was surpassed by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 , another film starring Diesel and Russell, in its third weekend. Dennis McCarthy might just be the most influential automotive enthusiast on the planet.
